Tokyo Station is a station operated by East Japan Railway Company (JR East), Central Japan Railway Company (JR Central), and Tokyo Metro and is located in Marunouchi 1-chome, Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo.


It is a terminal station for JR East's conventional lines and Shinkansen lines, JR Central's Tokaido Shinkansen, and Tokyo Metro's Marunouchi Line.


Located in the center of Marunouchi, Otemachi, Yurakucho, Yaesu, Nihombashi, and Kyobashi, which are Japan's largest business districts, it is directly connected to surrounding office buildings via underground shopping areas.


It is the starting point of the Tokaido and Tohoku Shinkansen lines and the largest hub in Japan's Shinkansen network. It is also the starting station for major trunk lines, including the Tokaido and Tohoku Main Lines.


34 prefectures can be reached directly from Tokyo Station without changing trains, and it is one of Japan's leading terminal stations, with approximately 3,000 train arrivals and departures per day.


Although it ranks 8th in the world and Japan in terms of the number of passengers, it has the largest number of platforms in Japan, with a total of 9 surfaces and 18 lines, including 5 surfaces and 10 lines above ground and 4 surfaces and 8 lines underground for conventional lines, 5 surfaces and 10 lines above ground for the Shinkansen, and 1 surface and 2 lines underground for the subway, and it has an area of approximately 46,800 square meters.
