Denzuin(傳通院)

 🛕

Located on a hill in Koishikawa, Bunkyo-ku, Tokyo, Denzuin Jukyoji is a Jodo sect temple with the formal name "Muryozan Denzuin Jukyoji".

It is the 12th temple of the Edo Thirty-Three Kannon Pilgrimage and is also called "Koishikawa Denzuin".

It began in 1415 as a small hermitage called "Muryozan Jukyoji," founded by Ryoyo, the seventh patriarch of the Jodo sect. In 1602, it became the family temple of Ieyasu's birth mother, Odai no Kata, and became a large temple with many temple buildings under the protection of the Tokugawa family, where Kamesmatsu, the second son of the third shogun Iemitsu, was buried.

The temple's name, Denzuin, is derived from Odai no Kata's Buddhist name, "Denzuindono."

It is located within walking distance of Korakuen Station and close to Tokyo Dome, but it is a quiet space that one would not expect to find in the heart of the city.

The address is 3-14-6 Koishikawa, Bunkyo-ku, Tokyo.
