 🛕

This is the family temple of the Tokugawa family, where successive shoguns are laid to rest.

It is a Tendai sect Kanto head temple founded in 1625. It was built by the high priest Tenkai, who was deeply revered by three generations of shoguns, Tokugawa Ieyasu, Hidetada, and Iemitsu, with the wish for the peace and security of the Tokugawa shogunate and the people.

It is a prayer temple and family temple of the Tokugawa shogunate, and even now, 6 out of 15 Tokugawa shoguns are sleeping here.
